It's World Hunger Day on the 28th May!
Here at Bird & Blend, we're always striving to make a positive impact on our local communiTEAs. Right from the beginning, Krisi & Mike wanted to bring the mission of 'Spreading Happiness' throughout the company. Through every little thing that we do!
We have partnered with CFS (City Food Share) & installed Tap & Share units in every one of our stores. "We are passionate about supporting causes that are close to our hearts," say Mike & Krisi, "anything that helps the people & environment around us. We are so proud to support this amazing initiative (Tap & Share) to help reduce food poverty in the UK." This initiative allows our communiTEAs to easily & safely donate to their local food charities, by simply tapping the units in-store. You can read more about the initiative & the impact our stores are making here.
Not only will we continue to encourage our communiTEAs to tap to donate in-store whenever they visit, but we also are running food donation drop offs across all departments the week of the 24th-28th May & you can get involved too!
Janelle & her TEAm in Manchester are collecting food & essentials donations for Mustard Tree - a charity which is close to their hearts which helps combat poverty in the Manchester area. You can find a full list of the recommended donations here.
In Brighton, our stores are bringing in donations for The Real Junk Food Café, who aim to 'feed bellies not bins'. We'll be collecting all week (24th-28th) & then delivering the donations!
You can find more about the locations donating below & the initiatives they're supporting.
World Hunger Day might only be once a year, but we feel it's so important to support our communiTEAs all year round. The pandemic has certainly had a huge impact on our local communiTEAs, The Trussell Trust found in their report (April 2020 - March 2021) that there was a 33% increase in the amount of emergency food parcels needed in the last year. Over the last five years there has been a 128% uplift in the need for food banks, you can read the full report here.
